Toga party! Introduce your character while wearing your mask and name tag. "Meet and Greet" activity on yellow sheet. If you missed class, get this yellow sheet from the homework box and turn in for credit.

Introduction to Greek theatre. This story is complex, so I recommend that if you missed class you do some research to understand the background of the story before you read. Also, you MUST be willing to do the work of going to the end notes at the back of your book in order to understand the play. I explained strophe and antistrophe in class, but if you missed, these terms will be Greek to you (pun intended). Do research!

HW:
Read pgs. 49 (yeah, it starts there) through 65
CHS IHS -- Come ready for our toga party with your toga and name tag

Thursday, October 9, 2008

THURS. 10/9 SOUTH IHS AND MONDAY 10/13 CHS IHS

Look at comma usage in "Eats, Shoots and Leaves"

Get vocabulary words for "Oedipus." Assignment for the first 10 words: Find or draw a picture for each of the ten words. You can download pics from google (but be careful! Often google images don't really seem to have much to do with the word they're supposed to represent), cut a pic from a magazine or newspaper, or draw one of your own. NEATLY tape, glue, or staple each picture onto a half sheet of paper, and put the vocab word and your name on the back of the paper. You should come to class with 10 pieces of paper, each a half sheet.

Get directions on toga/name tag assignment. If you missed class, you can google "how to wear a toga" and come up with directions, but DON'T go out and buy material. Wearing a sheet is fine, but think about how to do more than throw a sheet over a pair of jeans and tennis shoes. Wear a T shirt without logos underneath or a tank top of swimming suit top; wear leggings or tights or yoga pants and some kind of sandals. Use a brooch to pin it, or, if you use a safety pin, pin it underneath and make things look neat.

I passed out info on a character from the play "Oedipus" or a Greek god/goddess, and you'll represent your character at the Greek party next Tues (alpha) or Wed (omega).

Then you began work on a mask that represents your character.

HW:
GET VOCAB PICTURES
FINISH MASK IF YOU DIDN'T FINISH IN CLASS
COME TO CLASS WITH YOUR TOGA, READY TO REPRESENT YOUR CHARACTER
