Look at the classic poetry of Tagore, Mirabai, Rumi and Hafiz
You choose one poem to write a pastiche (imitation) of, mimicking the style, line length, and tone (mood) of the poem. (For instance, if the poem is written in couplets, you should do that, too, and if the poet says "thou" instead of "you," you do so, too. Then illustrate the poem with an colorful arabesque design down at least two sides of the front of the page. I showed arabesque designs in class; you can look them up under "arabesque" or "islamic art" in google.images.
Criteria for your poem:
Must be at least 8 lines long
Written neatly on blank paper, or you can type it, cut it out and glue it onto the sheet with your arabesque design if you prefer (or if your handwriting isn't neat)
Title if the poet you're imitating uses a title. Your name appears below the title, and also the name of the poet you're imitating
Colorful and neat, with designs and words filling the page
HMWK:
Finish the above poem
