TUES. 4/7 SOUTH IHS

Receive new vocab list of literary terms

AM and PM2 classes have quiz on the reading

Discuss events in the novel and role of the narrator

Begin work on themes of the novel. If you missed this class, here's the assignment: Take out the notes you have from last class on 6 themes. List each one, skipping about 12-14 lines between each listing (you can write on the back of your paper). For each theme, find 3 events from the novel (eventually using the whole novel, not just one section or chapter). Write the event in your own words and include how it ties to the theme. Don't copy directly from the book; no need to use quotes, but do write in complete sentences. You won't turn this in until we finish the novel, but it's good to be working on it as you read rather than saving it all to be done in one night.
Here's an example: Under the theme of "Effect of modernization and change" you could write "When the tannery moves into the village, we see the effect of modernization when young men get jobs and bring more money to their families, though prices and pollution are also increasing."
